Valley House have been working in partnership with Coventry University for may years to support the Social Work Programme for students – since the start of VH we have usually had 2 intakes per year of 1st placement students but this has not happened recently due to COVID
VH support Practice Placement students to develop a high level of knowledge and skills in social work practice as well as skills of reflection, analysis and support to apply theory to practice.
Students on placement have the opportunity to demonstrate an ability to operate as an independent, competent and critical practitioners.
Social Work student do the full role of a support worker where appropriate including carrying a case load and facilitation groups
The are observed on some pieces of work by managers and Uni tutor and VH provides a report at the end of placement
Next student placement intake is September, a start date at VH of the 13th and placements will be for 70 days
We currently have 1 student identified for Sept but may have another
Our managers supervise the daily work of the student and ensure they get the right learning opportunities and we use an external practice assessor – an ex VH student and employee!
