Valley House acquires new property to support family fleeing domestic abuse

We will be completing on a two-bedroom property today! (10/03/21) It’s been purchased with a loan we secured through Social and Sustainable Capital (SASC), the award-winning UK fund  and social enterprise. The investment of £2.5m from its Social and Sustainable Housing (SASH) fund has already been used to purchase 14 properties, paving the way for a more sustainable future. We were supported through the process by Anthony Collins Solicitors who have worked with charities and other not-for-profit bodies since 1973, and are independently ranked in the top five national law firms for such work.

We are getting the keys to our new property today

This new property is one of several more we aim to purchase with the rest of the loan. The new two- bedroom terrace property will help us to meet the sharp rise in demand for safe accommodation. When the keys are exchanged our maintenance team will work round the clock to get the property ready for a family fleeing domestic abuse.

Since the start of the initial lockdown in March 2020, reporting of domestic abuse has risen by 49% (centreforwomensjustice.org.uk). Charities across the city are struggling to meet demand. When asked what this new acquisition means for Valley House, CEO LJ Winterburn said “This increases our ability to support a vulnerable family who need to be somewhere safe to recover and move on with their lives.”
