On Sunday (26.07), staff and volunteers took part in a cycle ride round Memorial Park, Earlsdon, in lieu of our cancelled swim-a-thon.
It was a warm, breezy day perfect for cycling! Our cyclists met bright and early in high spirits. They cycled a combined distance of 60 miles, each doing two laps of the park.
We have to give a special mention to our youngest participant, Scarlett Grey. Not only did she practice the route in the week leading up to Sunday, on the day she pulled out all the stops and completed her circuit in just 22 minutes. Slashing her 1 hour practice time by 38 minutes!
The money raised will be used to provide counselling sessions for our service users to help them recover from the trauma they’ve experienced. Some funds will also be used to provide childcare so that a service user can attend support sessions.
How much does counselling cost?
£35 will cover the cost of 1 month of counselling for a Valley House service user
£105 will cover the cost of 3 months counselling.
£210 will cover the cost of 6 months counselling.
Our counselling is vital in helping our service users recover from the trauma they have experienced.
It’s a safe space where they can heal. Currently, our counselling is done over the phone, when it is safe to do so, it will resume in our newly refurbished counselling suites.
What common barrier prevents our service users getting support?
Some of the money raised from this event may also be used to provide childcare. Often, not having childcare is a barrier to accessing vital support services. £22 will cover the cost of one session of childcare, so that a Valley House parent can attend a group session on the effects of domestic abuse on children.
This event was organised by the domestic abuse service manager. She had this to say:
‘I organised this event because all money raised goes back into our service, helping our service users. It is also a great way to get out in the fresh air with family and friends and keep fit.’
